duuuuuuuuude!!
i hung out with a girl from work on sunday and we had a blast. we watched two movies and still managed to talk quite a bit. we're planning to hang out at least every week, which is waaay cool. and...duh duh duh...she found out that i love to downhill ski. so i invited her to come along when i go for a weekend with Becky in 3 weeks.
sunday was the first time i had hung out with someone other than my sister and her college friends (i'm incredibly thankful that i have her, but it's just not the same as hanging around with people who are where i'm at in life). so, yeah, it was a really good weekend.
i also went to a hockey game on friday and will go to another one tomorrow night with another girl from work. we get along really well and can waste lots of time talking about non-work stuff when we should be working. but she is the type of person who has tons of acquantences -- as far as i can tell, her only good friend is her boyfriend (and as soon as one relationship ends, another begins). so she's a blast to go to games with and hang out every once-in-a-while, but not someone who i'll be good friends with.
these are the only other two people i know in town who are between college-age and 35. the only problem i've found with kearney is that the only place to meet people are in bars. so the only people i know at all close to my age are these two girls at the courthouse...
"and now for something completely different"... tonight at walmart, i realized i've never seen anyone there that i know (except for the time i met my sister there). not a minute later, i heard a "hey jennifer" from a lady who works at the courthouse. (i need to train them to call me jen at least, but its tough to teach these older folks to not call someone by their full name.)
another thought i had while at walmart... this one absolutely terrified me for a few seconds. what if when i finally work on my budget, i realize i can't afford to ski as much as i'm planning on this winter? then i decided to either not work on my budget until after ski season or use all of my christmas money to support my winter needs. :)
