the more i get to know my sister, the more i realize that we are very similar -- in the bad and the good. we have failed in the same ways. we have excelled in the same ways.

i am amazed everyday at how well i know her now, when only 13 months ago we talked only once every few months.

crappy roads and lots of wonderful friends

the weekend began friday at 5.00pm when i left for the casselberry's.. the roads were fine until i left i-35 and got onto us-60. that leg of the trip usually takes 2 hours, but this time it was 2.5 or 3, putting me at my destination at 1.15ish. the drive was very enjoyable dispite the crap roads -- listening to 1984 on cd and catching some npr shows. after talking with mrs. c for awhile and watching some olympics, i fell asleep at 2.30 or 3.00.

i woke up on saturday at 8.00 and was out of the door by 9.00 for the plymale/sullivan wedding in fort smith. this journey is supposed to take 3 hours, but was more like 4.15. on this leg of the trip, i saw for the 1st time that southern states don't have near enough equipment to clear snowy/icy roads, but the drivers were cautious, so it wasn't too big of a deal. i went straight to the church and immediately saw jeremiah i. taking pictures of snow melting off the church. i joined him for awhile because i wasn't sure what else to do. soon he figured out where the girls were for me to hang out with and i sat in the bridemaid's room with sarah p, becca i, sarah jo, christina g, and sisters of the couple until the wedding began.

the wedding was really neat. after sarah's dad led her into the santuary, he thanked everyone for coming and prayed for the couple. the couple also had communion together and the paster signed the marriage certificate during the ceremony. the reception was a blast -- lots of catching up as well as the taking of some fun pictures (which will be posted later). i got to talk a ton with jenelle and caught up with derek f, christina, archie, and a few others.

after the reception, we surprised sarah jo with cake and a card that everyone had signed. she was her normal helpful self rushing around everywhere after the couple left, so it was hard to keep her in one place long enough to get our crowd in position to see what was going on. we put a bunch of candles in a slice of wedding cake and waited for awhile. then we lit them and traked her down to the sanctuary. apparently they were trick candles because, even with spit, she couldn't blow them out. we were afraid the smoke alarm would go off and as the group was shifting, the cake and lit candles fell on the carpet on stage. much excitement! :) after this fun, i chatted a bunch more with jenelle before we were kicked out of the church.

after i was in my motel room, there was more catching up with people before i realized i needed to get away from the crowd. watching olympics alone followed as well as hanging out with becca a bit.

the next morning i drove back to the casselberry's. the roads were a little better, but i was still surprised at how crappy they were. at one point, i drove on a US highway that appeared it hadn't been plowed or salted at all since the storm a day or 2 before. once again 1984 and npr made the trip go really quickly.

the rest of the day consisted of hanging out with the casselberry's -- watching secondhand lions, taking a braums run with jonathan for chocolate and sugar, watching more olympics, and generally hanging out. monday morning and afternoon was more of the same, along with a few wonderful conversations with mrs. c. i finally packed up at 4.00ish. my car was filty from the roads and i noticed a peculiar "icicle" sticking out of my tire near the rim. upon closer inspection, i realized it was a small, white nail. after about 45 minutes, i had a new tire (and got to watch some of the womens gold medal hockey game on a big screen while i waited!). as always, my trip home began later than expected, but i still got home at a decent time.

this is a significant week for my siblings and i.

14 years ago yesterday, my brother arrived at the airport in omaha and joined our family. i would say that's a more significant date for us than his birthday. i want to write more about that night sometime, just not tonight.

1 year ago this week, i started talking with my sister. we were never enemies or anything, but never talked more than once a semester until then. it was a perfect example of how something terrible could turn into something absolutely wonderful. (that's all i can say on here.) and now she's living with me. what a difference a year makes!

mom had more appendicitis symptoms than i did. but when they went in to take it out, it was completely healthy. a virus was the cause of it all.

don't know much more about grandma yet.

on a much happier note...i just returned from a wonderful weekend of hanging out with good friends and skiing. and my sister moved in with me a few days ago. life is significantly improved. :)
